University College Birmingham (UCB) continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to its international connections and the unique learning opportunity these connections offer.

As part of a long running commitment to developing culinary arts training in the Caribbean over a number of years, the college has been working with Barbados Community College to develop their trainers and review their culinary operations. In June and July, five chefs and food service experts from UCB travelled to Barbados, with the aim of providing tailor-made training sessions for staff and students. Such sessions involved UCB staff working with our Barbadian colleagues in developing their culinary skills teaching and in leading sessions with students. The staff also arranged a competition in the form of a ‘cook-off ‘on the ‘Skills for Chefs’ course to reinforce the ‘Skills for Chefs’ module.
