Willkommen in Frankfurt!

Four Birmingham care leavers have been able to undertake work experience at the Marriott Hotel in Birmingham’s partner city of Frankfurt as part of the Willkommen Project.

The Willkommen Project is led by Catch 22, a UK charity that works with care leavers, in partnership with Marriott Hotels and five English local authorities. It is supported by funding from the EU’s Leonardo Lifelong Learning Programme.

Twelve care leavers from across the UK took part in this year’s project. Together with accompanying staff, they travelled to Germany in mid-March and completed two-week work placements at Marriott Hotels in Cologne, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Heidelberg and Stuttgart. The project has given the care leavers the opportunity to gain valuable high quality work experience; some of the care leavers have even taken up work in Marriott Hotels as a result of their placements.

Birmingham has been taking part in the project since its launch and has sent two care leavers on placements in the Marriott Frankfurt hotel in 2013 and 2014.

After having completed a German language course at the Brasshouse Language Centre and preparatory training at Marriott Birmingham, the two care leavers completed their work placement at Marriott Frankfurt this March, one working in banqueting and the other in catering.
