The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra abroad

The CBSO is recognised as one of Birmingham’s great institutions for its regular performances at Symphony Hall and its extensive learning and engagement programme.

But its fame extends far beyond the West Midlands: the CBSO has a history of acting as an ambassador for the region dating back to its first international tour in 1963. Its recent performance in Tokyo – part of a major Far East tour supported by Jaguar Land Rover – was selected as Japan’s best classical concert of 2013 by 44 of the country’s leading music critics, receiving more votes than performances by the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra.
