Dinner in Honor of the Jamaican Athletic team

On the 28th of July the University of Birmingham hosted a dinner in honor of the Jamaican Athletics team.  Prior to that, the team was training at the University of Birmingham for the World Athletics Championship 2017, which was held in London.

The dinner began with a welcome speech by the Chairman of the Birmingham Commonwealth Association, Mr Keith Stokes – Smith. Other speakers included Deputy High Commissioner for Jamaica, Mrs Angella Rose- Howell, Prof. Myra Nimmo, Pro Vice- Chancellor, University of Birmingham, Ian Forbes, Jamaican Track and Field Team Manager, Mr Wade Lyn, CBE Hon. Consul for Jamaica in Birmingham.

There was palpable excitement in the audience when the Jamaican Track and Field manager endorsed the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth games bid. The dinner attracted around 150 people. Guests were entertained by soprano Miss Abigail Kelly and Johnny Hoo and Friends Jazz band. After dinner, an auction was held to raise money for the Birmingham Commonwealth Association and the Jamaican Track and Field Team.
