Birmingham’s international strategy is currently under development.
The purpose of the international strategy will be to provide a clear framework for the development of the city’s international engagement over the next 6 years (2024-2030). With clear priorities for action, the strategy will enable a more strategic and coordinated approach to building the city’s global competitiveness and influence. It positions Birmingham as an attractive city with a strong track record for international trade and investment. A key strength is the city’s demographic profile, home to 1.12 million people, with the 51% of its population from black minority ethnic backgrounds, a city embodying an outward looking global perspective.
Birmingham City Council’s European and International Affairs Department works to implement the International Strategy.
Birmingham has created a strong platform from which we can build our international ambitions. Firmly set on a journey of transformation, our growth plans for the city aim to deliver the following by 2031:
Birmingham and its residents face numerous opportunities and challenges. The council must be bold, ambitious, and confident: bold in its aspirations, ambitious in setting priorities, and confident in its ability to deliver. The Corporate Plan 2022 to 2026 provides a unified framework for our strategic planning, focusing on reducing inequalities and creating opportunities for citizens to lead longer, healthier, and happier lives.
