A bold new partnership to shape Birmingham’s future

Birmingham City Council has teamed up with Aston University to launch the Civic Agreement 2030, a major initiative aimed at driving social and economic change across the city and the wider West Midlands region.

Uniting 17 leading organisations from health, education, business, technology and the community, the Agreement sets out seven ambitious pledges. These focus on boosting economic growth, raising educational standards, advancing research, empowering communities, improving health, nurturing aspiration, and championing sustainability.

Reaffirming a commitment to collaboration and inclusive growth, Birmingham City Council sees this as a key step towards cementing the city’s reputation as a vibrant centre for innovation, opportunity and wellbeing.

Councillor John Cotton, Leader of Birmingham City Council, said: “The Civic Agreement is a landmark moment for Birmingham. Working closely with Aston University and our partners across the region, we’re building a fairer, greener and more prosperous city. Our goal is to tackle inequality, open up opportunities and make sure everyone benefits from Birmingham’s growth.”

At the heart of the Civic Agreement 2030 is Aston University’s Quadruple Helix model, which brings together academia, industry, government and society to create real-world impact. This approach positions Birmingham as a national and international leader in skills development, enterprise and innovation.

Birmingham City Council looks forward to working alongside Aston University and fellow signatories to deliver on these pledges and bring lasting positive change to communities throughout the city.
