Towards a Common Future

Next year, in April 2018, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting will take place in London and Windsor to respond to common challenges they are facing and to share common values such as prosperity, democracy and peace. In anticipation of this, on 19th September, the leaders from across the Commonwealth met at a reception hosted in New York. The UK Prime Minister Theresa May together with Prime Minister Muscat of Malta and Patricia Scotland, the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth officially announced the theme and priorities for the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting: ‘Towards a Common Future’.

Leaders in their speeches emphasized troubled and chaotic times we are living now, and necessity for a positive collaboration and a strong partnership between Commonwealth countries. Special attention was given to youth that accounts for 60% of the Commonwealth population. Also young people from across the Commonwealth joined the event and shared their vision for its future.

Furthermore, the official logo was unveiled. The logo incorporates 52 hexagons, representing each member state. The shapes have six equal sides signifying the equal voice that member states has and the six continents represented in the Commonwealth.
