Art work of Nathnael Shiferaw (13yo) from Addis Abeba

Between 6 and 17 July, the City of Leipzig hosted an art exhibition for children from their sister cities:

Bologna (Italy), Herzliya (Israel), Travnik (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Birmingham (UK), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Brno (Czech Republic) and Taketa (Friendship Status, Japan).

Children under the age of 18 were asked to create art pieces titled ‘Neighbourhood’.

The exhibition did not only show the work of young artists from different countries but also conveyed the history and the different living conditions and needs. Thus, each image did not only make artistic but also a social statement and made this context visible to exhibition visitors.

Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery worked with IKON Gallery and local schools and gathered an impressive selection of art work which was then sent to Leipzig. Art work from Birmingham and other cities was displayed in the Leipzig City Hall from 6 – 17 July 2015.
