EU Transnational Programme

Birmingham City Council (BCC) and the European and International Affairs (EIA) team is currently involved in several transnational projects including:

  • Climate Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC)(Created by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology) aims to transform innovative ideas in the field of climate change into new products, services and jobs.
  • Cogita (Interreg IVC) supports the uptake of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in SMEs.
  • CEPPI 2, that seeks to develop a coordinated approach to energy-related PPIs actions for cities (CEPPI).
  • LARA seeks to develop a mobile device to assist the utility management professionals on the field. The hand-held, low cost, mobile device will integrate state-of-the-art technologies in the domain of positioning and sensors.
  • SETA will test technologies and methodologies set to change the way mobility is organised, monitored and planned in large metropolitan areas.
  • OPTICITIES is aiming to develop and test interoperable IT solutions in six different cities in order to provide urban citizens with the best possible journey conditions and to optimize urban logistics operations.
  • OPTIMUM project is working to unveil state-of-the-art information technology solutions to improve transit, freight transportation and traffic connectivity throughout Europe.
  • NewBusFuel project will work with 12 bus operators in Europe, each of whom have demonstrated political support for the deployment of hydrogen bus fleets. In each location engineering studies will be produced, by collaborative design teams involving bus operators and industrial experts.
  • Light Night Birmingham City Council through the Library of Birmingham played host to Lightfest 2015, a series of events organised by Aston University celebrating how the science of light plays an integral role in our lives.
  • Twinned Cities Youth Sports Exchange, the project will see young people from the Birmigham, France and  Germany travel to Lyon on a youth exchange that will see them develop skill and experiences.
